Short Writing
Due: Next class
Using first person, write a one-page journal entry from the
point of view of Hagar in chapter 5 where she puzzles through her criminal
behavior and feelings for Milkman. You can chronicle her emotions and the
events before OR after her 6th attempt on Milkman’s life in Guitar’s
bedroom. Use language from the text to capture/define what she’s going through
and feel free to have her discuss the reactions of Pilate, Reba, and the town
to her behavior.

Today, I found a knife. While yesterday all I could find was a chain. All I think of each day is finding something to punish Milkman with, any weapon. No longer do I think of drinking wine or eating food, those actions come as a by-product of the ways in means which I can kill him. Everyday all I can think is finding a weapon, something to make him respond to me and help my poor soul. Sunlight isn't sunlight unless it helps me kill him. Every object is thought of in a new light, as if everything can be manipulated into a armament.
ReplyDeleteNo longer can I think of happy things or sad things. Every thought is an anticipation, a planning, a large project. There is no end in sight. I don't know what will happen when I finally get my hands on him, all I have are these impulses which I cannot quell.
